Awesome ruins - but now one big market place for low quality goods. Well a spectacular place like this should always get 5 stars. Why only 4? For whatever reason, the owners have decided that it would be a great idea to cram this place with literally 100s of stalls, all selling the same sort of mass produced stuff. They are everywhere, and the badgering from the stall managers is constant, insessent and by the end of your tour incredibly irritating. This should be a revered place not a bustling market for tat - which is what it's become. Great shame as the ruins are pretty awesome.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

but still one of the coolest archeological/historical sites Super touristy, hot, and always has a lot of people, but still one of the coolest archeological/historical sites so definitely still worth seeing at least once. If you can go early in the morning right when they open, do it because its slightly cooler and usually has the smallest crowd of people (within 30 minutes of arriving, the crowd sizes more than doubled when I was last here). The vendors are also really pushy and annoying but if you do want to buy something, make sure you do not take the first price they offer you and if you speak spanish, do it because they will hike up the prices a lotPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

One down on my bucket list - Thanks xpo tours. A MUST SEE place, since it's quite far from Cancun consider taking this Discovery tour which includes lunch, cenote and Valladolid as well. We were like one of the first at Chichen Itza and it was amazing, having almost the whole sight for us. We booked through the same people from XPO Cancun which picked us up at the airport. The bus even had a bathroom and was very comfortable, I would say even more than the flight, so the drive to Chichen Itza went pretty quickly and the guides on the bus were wonderful. We had a great cooling of at the Palmera Cenote where they also served us lunch, there was something for everybody, even our young ones. Thanks for the great day Richard.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Journeys into the heart of the Mayan civilization We went off-season and honestly it was very good. It is key to go early in the morning, much fewer people and less sun. Highly recommendedPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

A big commercial fair with Mayan monuments in the middle You really have to go as early as possible, but not because of the heat! You have to go early in the first place because around nine o'clock, all the "artisanal" souvenir sellers (but who all look the same throughout Mexico) all arrive by the dozens and set up. And from then on, there is no way to take a step in the archaeological park without being solicited. The crowd also arrives between 9 and 10 o'clock and all the apprentice influencers and selfie-takers plant themselves everywhere to take the umpteenth copy of the cool photo to take at Chichen Itza. Otherwise, well when you arrive, you have to walk through endless aisles of shops to get to the ticket counters to now pay almost 700 pesos (3 times more expensive than last year) when you are a foreigner and the guided tour is over 1000 pesos. In short, prices have become exorbitant even though the park is already more than widely monetized and without the site being that much more interesting than Teotihuacan or Monte Alban. A place you have to go if you are a sucker who likes to be hassled!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Tour of the ancient Maya ruins My suggestion is to visit this evocative place during the early morning hours, to bring water with you, and to wear comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. To get to the entrance, we had to walk a long stretch under the sun, because the driver had parked the vehicle quite far from the main entrance, due to the influx of cars and buses. Once inside, we went through a guided path, among small shops until we reached the metal detector and backpack check (it is not allowed to bring food, only water). Subsequently, we started a route on a dirt road with a small cenote on the right side and myriads of small stalls. After about 10 minutes of walking, we finally arrived in front of the immense pyramid of Kukulcan, located in a large open space where other imposing structures were present. Moving forward, we saw the Temple of the Warriors, the ball court, and other ancient structures.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()
